Sam Raimi’s long planned big budget adaptation of The Day of the Triffids is finally getting underway as Neil Cross (Luther) has just signed up as a writer for the project. This is the first major step in the production of the movie and it proves that Raimi is ready to go ahead with the project; it’s no longer a rumour folks this is actually happening!
The movie which will be produced by Sam Raimi along with his production company Ghost House Studios is based on the classic post-apocalyptic novel by John Wyndam. Here’s a brief summary of the story,
A meteor shower causes most of the world’s population to lose their sight. The minority that remain sighted fight to rebuild civilization as they battle against flesh eating plants from another world.
Here’s what we’ve learned about the movies new script writer Neil Cross; his career has been based mainly in the UK, where he was a writer for the acclaimed series Luther as well as the hit BBC series Spooks. He’s an author of several novels and has been shortlisted for the Booker Man Prize.
His work has also been internationally recognised as he was recently voted one of the top 10 writers to look out for in 2012 by Variety.
With Raimi’s obvious talents and an accomplished writer now on board things seem to have gotten off to a good start for this project and as a fan of the book I’m eager to see the final product.
