Trailer For The Alien-Apartheid Apocalypse Movie District 9

I’ve been following the progress of this movie for a while now but wasn’t sure until today whether it was appropriate for the site… But it’s just been whispered in my ear that this may actually end up being sum what of an apocalyptic movie after all.
The movie is produced by Peter Jackson (Lord of The Rings) and directed by Neil Blomkamp and is set and filmed in South Africa. Judging by the excitement of the many sci-fi bloggers around the net there’s already a lot of interest in the movie; interest that has now peaked with the release of the new trailer (see below)

Summary:
30 years earlier when an alien race first made contact with Earth, the world waited in anticipation of either a hostile invasion or huge advances in science and technology. However when the aliens finally emerged they had little to offer and were of no threat as they were refuges, the last survivors of a dying world. On arrival the alien visitors were put into a settlement; a glorified refugee camp in South Africa that became known as District 9. Left to rot in squalid conditions as the world’s leaders argue over what to do with them and the nation’s intolerance reaches breaking point, the extraterrestrials suddenly find an ally in a government agent that has been exposed to their biotechnology.

US Release Date: 14 August 2009
Cast: Sharlto Copley, William Allen Young, Robert Hobbs, Jason Cope,
Kenneth Nkosi, David James, Vanessa Haywood
Director: Neil Blomkamp

Generally speaking August isn’t the typical release time for a movie that’s expected to do well at the box office, and is usually the time that the studios put out their “fillers” however some of these movies turn out to be surprise hits, so let’s hope this is one of them.

Cool trailer, judging by the story and where it’s set it’s obviously a reference to South Africas history and if it’s handled well it could turn out to be a very thought provoking and entertaining film.
