As we’ve just come into a new year it seems like the perfect time for an update on the most anticipated apocalyptic films of 2010. Last year was a great year for us apocalyptic movie fans we saw the release of some big budget films including Terminator Salvation, 9 and 2012. This trend is set to continue with a year packed with even more great apocalyptic movies and TV shows to come. This is my list of the Must-See movies coming up this year.

If I’ve missed any films and you’re not happy about it just let me know in the comments.  Oh and you can click the titles for more info.

The Road

A father and son embark on a harrowing journey south through a post-apocalyptic American landscape.

Why is this a must-see movie? – It’s the film adaptation of the Best Selling (and some say most overrated) PA book of the Century.

The Book of Eli

A man fights his way through the wastelands of a post-apocalyptic America to protect a sacred book, which holds the key to saving the future of humanity.

Why is this a must-see movie? We not only get to see our hero Denzel Washington Kick some ass in baddass style, we get to watch Gary Oldman play the sadistic evil maniac we all know he plays so well.

Daybreakers

Vampires have taken over the world and brought humanity to the brink of extinction. But now their food supply is running low and the vampires are getting a little pissed off.

Why is this a must-see movie?Loads of vampires fighting over an inadequate supply of blood, sounds like the makings of a good movie to me.

Legion

God decides he’s tired of us humans and unleashes a set of kick-ass angels to do the dirty work but Archangel Michael (Paul Bettany) has other plans.

Why is this a must-see movie?Well we get to see God play the bad guy for once and Paul Bettany wants to kick his ass.

Survival of the Dead

An Island off the coast of America has a serious dilemma, some of their parents and children have turned into the undead. Do they kill them or keep them as pets till they find a cure?

Why is this a must-see movie?George A Romero

The Crazies

The inhabitants of a small town start going a bit loopy after a toxin is released into their water supply

Why is this a must-see movie?Lots and lots of gratuitous violence

Vanishing On 7th Street

Mysterious entities descend on a city and cause the spontaneous disappearance of most of the inhabitants. A few survivors team up and try to save their asses whilst figuring out what the heck is going on.

Why is this a must-see movie? Well if the plot isn’t enough to get you going the film stars Hayden Christensen and the gorgeous Thandie Newton

Red Dawn

When Chinese and Russian forces invade America a group of disgruntled teenagers want some payback.

Why is this a must-see movie? If you’re old enough to remember the original you’ll know why. It’s one of the few movies to show foreign forces on American soil.

Priest

Set in a world ruined by centuries of war between vampires and men. A warrior priest tries to save his niece from the clutches of some nasty vamps, whilst pissing off the church at the same time.

Why is this a must-see movie? I’m not sure but the poster looks well wicked and it stars Paul Bettany from Legion.
