According to Bloody Disgusting MTV are currently trying to acquire the rights to make a TV series based on George A. Romero’s zombie classic Dawn of the Dead. They also state that it will be a spin-off from the movie rather than a totally original project. But that still leaves the possible storyline wide open, as the series could pick up from any point in the movie. Although I’m not sure they could fill an entire season with 7 people trapped in a shopping mall. I kind of like the idea of a Dawn of the Dead TV series, I mean why not? I think given a good screenwriter this could turn out to be pretty good, right? But either way it’s still early days and this project may end up just another rumour, but if it develops any further I’ll be sure to keep you posted.

With only 7 days left till the return of the post-apocalyptic TV series Survivors, here’s a chance to remind ourselves of the explosive events of the first season and take a peek at what’s to come in season 2 with the BBC teaser trailer. Survivors is a reboot of the 1970’s BBC classic in which a plague wipes out 99% of the population leaving the remaining few struggling to survive in a world that’s changed forever. The first video is the season two trail, basically a catch-up of the events in season one and a reminder of just what it was that got us hooked in the first place. The second video is the teaser trailer for the upcoming new season which shows even more explosive action and story lines to come. The show airs on BBC One in the UK on Tuesday, January 12.
The hit post-apocalyptic TV show Survivors returns to the BBC in the UK. Following on directly from the cliff hanger at the end of the last season, the show is set to have an explosive opening when it airs January 12. Survivors is an up to date remake of the classic 1970s TV show, in which a virus kills 99% of the population. The few remaining are left trying to pick up the pieces in an effort to return some semblance of civilization. The show centres round a small group who have become a mismatched family in the aftermath of the viral apocalypse. Struggling with the difficulties of everyday life they also have the threat of other emerging communities, who are also vying for the limited resources. *Survivors isn’t currently available in the US; however you may be able to get hold of an imported copy of Season One. If you have any problems getting hold of Season One, we are more than happy to mail it to you from the UK at no extra cost. You can contact us to make the arrangements.
The BBC is airing a new version of the classic apocalyptic tale The Day of the Triffids in the UK as part of their Christmas line up. The show will be in two parts starting 28th December so you can enjoy the show whilst gorging on your left over turkey sandwiches! For the uninitiated The Day of the Triffids is a post-apocalyptic novel (which by the way has made our top ten PA book list,) that has been dramatised a few times in the past, most notably by the BBC in 1981. Well the Beeb are at it again and this time it’s going to be bigger, better and judging by the all star line up it isn’t going to disappoint. Cast: Dougray Scott, Joely Richardson, Eddie Izzard, Brian Cox, Vanessa Redgrave, Jason Priestley, Ewen Bremner, Shane Taylor UK Air Date: 28th December Available on DVD: 1st February (UK) Summary: After a solar event the worlds population looses their sight and if that wasn’t bad enough a plant mutation also creates giant moblie flesh eating plants! As corny and laughable as the plot might sound the story is very well put together and the ridiculousness of the situation is stated many times throughout the narrative. Which helps to create a believable and outstandingly realistic plot that draws you into what is quite a unique and dramatic story. We’ve got 3 sneak previews for you below and scroll further down for some shots of the cast and stills from the show. Merry Christmas! Check out the 3 sneak previews of The Day of The Triffids: Preview One – Security Breach Preview Two – Plane Crash Preview Three – Skies Ablaze Images from the show: Thanks for the info Radioactive and welcome aboard!
Stephen King and Steven Spielberg along with his DreamWorks studio are working together to adapt kings novel, Under the Dome for a limited TV Series. The novel follows the struggle of a small New England town that is suddenly enveloped by a transparent force field, cutting them off from the rest of the world. Trapped and confused by the unexplainable event, the towns people must fend for themselves whilst their loved ones can only watch helplessly from outside the dome. As the situation becomes more desperate violence begins to escalate within the community, as they fight to survive and protect their dwindling food supplies. Anyone that’s read the novel will know that this TV adaptation is exciting news, as like many of kings novels Under the Dome is perfect for the small screen. Also, being the rather lengthy story that it is, I think only a TV or mini series could really do it justice. I’m also very happy to see that DreamWorks Studios is involved, as some of kings recent adaptations haven’t fared so well. If you’re not familiar with this novel and would like to take a read you can find it here: Stephen Kings Under the Dome sources: variety

So the new V pilot finally landed on ABC last night and I’ve got to say whilst it didn’t blow me away for the most part I enjoyed it. I remember the spectacular opening of the original 80s series and being awe struck as the giant alien space ships descended over the major cities across the globe. However the opening to the new series whilst not a total disappointment wasn’t anywhere near as compelling as the original. And sadly in my opinion neither was the rest of the pilot. The premise of the new series does differ slightly from the original in that prior to their official arrival on Earth the “visitors” have already secretly been living amongst us and have infiltrated society as well as high levels of government and fuelled terrorist attacks across the globe. Aside from that and a few other minor plot changes it’s pretty much similar to the 80s classic with some obvious improvements in special effects etc, although personally I prefer alien ships from the 80s show. As you can probably tell I’m not exactly enthusiastic about the new pilot but I do think given a chance it could develop into a good show. For those that missed the show you can catch the pilot online on abc.com Saturday 7th November.

Well after having my appetite wet by the excellent pilot for the upcoming apocalyptic SyFy series Caprica, it seems I, along with millions of other expectant fans will now have to wait a little longer as the series will not air till early 2010. Summary For those unfamiliar Caprica is a spin-off show and prequel to Battlestar Galactica. Set 58 years earlier the show traces the events that lead to the rise of the Cylons and the eventual cataclysmic destruction of the planet. Availability: The show will air on SyFy January 22, 9pm (US) and on Space January 22 9 ET/6PT (Canada) and Sky 1 TBA (UK) Cast: Eric Stoltz, Michelle Andrew, Roger R. Cross, Magda Apanowicz, Genevieve Buechner Release Date: TBA likely January 2010. Update: See availability above Viewing the pilot you can’t help but feel the similarities between the Caprica home world and our own. And I had the uneasy feeling that maybe one day our pride and scientific follies may lead us down a similar path. If you’ve not seen the pilot yet I won’t spoil it for you, other than to say watch it! For now it’s only available on either DVD or digital download. Caprica Trailer

For those that missed the start of the excellent Torchwood – Children of the Earth TV event that aired on BBC America last night (July 20th). Here’s your chance to watch the rather spectacular opening to the show. BBC America has provided the first few minutes of the Apocalyptic TV event for your viewing pleasure (see below.) But if you want more don’t fret you can see it in its entirety again tonight at 8pm right before the second show (day 2) begins. Show Details The Children of the Earth mini will run for 5 nights consecutively during this week on BBC America at 9pm. Where you can also catch the previous nights show an hour earlier. More details are available at BBC America For those unfamiliar with Torchwood it’s a Doctor Who spin off that has become hugely popular in the UK and worldwide amongst sci-fi fans. The show has now gained a huge following in its own right and is beginning to rival the show it was originally derived from. Summary One morning an extraordinary event sweeps throughout the planet; at exactly 8.45 AM every child around the world suddenly stops and begins chanting the words “we are coming” over and over. The Torchwood team still dealing with the deaths of two of their own have to shake off their grief to investigate the event. And what they uncover is a menacing alien threat that will put the future of the entire human race in danger. Having watched this when it was originally aired in the UK I can tell you it’s a spectacular TV experience, I was actually surprised not just at how good the show was but also by how confidently it dealt with issues that are not often shown in the realm of Sci-fi, so it gets a big thumbs up from me. Watch the 7 minute opening to the show from BBC America

The mystery surrounding NBC’s upcoming post-apocalyptic show has finally been revealed. The extended trailer also gives an insight in to the plot which has been said to be a cross between War of the Worlds and Lost. Well judging by the trailer (below) it looks like all the hoopla surrounding the initial announcement of NBC’s upcoming “TV Event” is founded. It certainly isn’t anything like I’d expected and I must say that after watching the trailer my excitement over the show has increased ten fold. In my opinion (and I know it’s still too early to tell) it looks like it’s going to be one of the most talked about shows of 2010. Summary: After a global catastrophe destroys the world’s infrastructures and all but wipes out the planets governments the world’s populations are left to fend for themselves. The show follows a group of survivors; all residents of a Californian suburban apartment building as they emerge into the chaos following the event. Together they set out on a quest for survival whilst trying to uncover the mysteries surrounding the event that has brought civilisation to it knees. Cast and Production details: Executive producer and writer Jesse Alexander (Heroes, Lost) Director Alex Graves (Fringe, Journeyman) Cast: Adam Campbell, Catherine Dent, Julie Gonzalo, David Lyons, Derek Mio, Carly Pope, Thekla Reuten and Addison Timlin Take a look at the trailer see what you think * Apparently this trailer has been leaked so it probably won’t stay available for long.

The Discovery Channel will be airing a new reality TV show The Colony, which will see 10 “survivors” struggle to recreate some semblance of society. The show will air at 10pm on Tuesday July 21. Summary: The so called survivors will be contained within a large complex that will simulate a post–apocalyptic environment. The shows producers have stated that the 10 will have to complete a number of tasks in order to survive. They will also need to turn the remnants of civilization into life saving supplies and equipment. This task will be made even harder, as they will need to defend themselves from looters and other undesirables who want to take what they’ve built. To be honest when I first heard about the show late last year I laughed and dismissed it without giving it too much thought. But now I’m starting to think that this could actually be quite interesting. I mean it is the Discovery Channel after all, so we should hopefully be spared from the usual media hungry Reality TV types that these kinds of shows attract. And considering the tasks they have to perform, which includes creating a water filtration system and a greenhouse, I’d imagine there must be a few scientific boffin types amongst them, so maybe I could learn a thing or two… just in case…
