David Hayter has been confirmed as writer for the movie adaptation of the post-apocalyptic zombie comic Deadworld, that will begin production early next year. Anyone familiar with the Deadworld comics will know that this is going to be one of the most original zombie movies ever made. Plot Summary: The film like the comics will focus on the zombies themselves rather than the human survivors. One in particular “King Zombie” the films anti-hero has made it his own personal mission to rid the world of the few surviving humans, whilst taking revenge on them for turning him into an outcast. Set four months after the initial event that created the now zombie infested world; the film will follow King Zombie as he leads his band of zombie warriors. Creatively speaking having a zombie as the main protagonist will present some unique problems for the production team. However the films financier and producer Bill Mechanic has made a wise choice bringing in writer and producer David Hayter, who is no novice when it comes to translating extraordinary comic fiction onto celluloid, as his proven skills on Watchmen and X-men will illustrate. Hayter will not only write the adaptation but also handle all the design and creative aspects of the movie. The main challenges for his team at Dark Hero Studios (Hayter’s production company,) will be creating frighteningly realistic zombies that are neither caricature nor overly gruesome, and seen as we will be spending most of the movies viewing time watching them and their antics this will be no easy task. I must admit I’m excited to see just how this huge undertaking will be achieved, as soon as any production stills become available you’ll be sure to find them right here. On a side note there’s also already talk of this becoming a franchise and even though there are a plethora of zombie movies out there, I can’t see why this couldn’t be as it will definitely bring something new and original to the table. How it will fare at the box office though is anyone’s guess, however being a huge fan of zombie movies, and an admirer of Hayters work on Watchmen I personally will be queuing up for the first available showing. Bring on the zombie mayhem!
