Red Dawn Remake Good to Go For September Production

Well after a few false starts and a major revamping of the script the remake of the classic 80s movie is on schedule to begin production in September this year.

The hit 80’s movie Red Dawn is one in a string of classic films that’s been getting the movie makeover treatment recently. And although it seems many have reservations about the updated version, the movies producers are pulling out all the stops in order to give this newest MGM reworking a fighting chance. The production team have already had the recently penned script rewritten by the writer of the Bourne films Tony Gilroy. And the director Dan Bradley who’s also worked on the Bourne Ultimatum and Quantum of Solace will ensure that this will be a spectacularly explosive and action packed movie.

So that’s the production what about the cast…

Well three names have already been added to the role call, Josh Peck, Chris Hemsworth and Adrianne Palicki.

Peck is set to play Matt Eckert the role originally played by Charlie Sheen, and Hemsworth will be playing his older brother Jed (originally Patrick Swayze) whilst Adrianne Palicki takes on the role of Toni who was played by Jennifer Grey in the original.

Summary
When America is invaded by Russian and Chinese forces, a handful of students form a rebellion to push the invaders from their small town. However their resistance quickly turns into all out guerrilla warfare as they patriotically fight for their freedom.

To be honest when I heard about the remake I wasn’t that overjoyed but after discovering the films got a great writer, production team and the beginnings of a strong cast a lot of my initial apprehension was alleviated. That being said whether this movie can capture the spirit of the original is another thing. Red Dawn is a movie that has got a lot of nostalgia attached to it, but who knows maybe this update could have the same effect on the post 9/11 generation.

Red Dawn has a US release date of September 24th 2010

a more likely case would have been resisting the Mexican Reconquista, or since this was based around Detroit, being overrun by Islamic terrorists from Dearnborn!
