Producer Mike De Luca Confirms a Possible ‘Priest’ Franchise

The recently interviewed producer of the upcoming post-apocalyptic movie Priest, Mike De Luca, has revealed some insightful titbits of information on not only the production of the movie but also a possible future franchise.

From Collider

“… we submitted the spec script to Screen Gems. Clint Culpepper flipped over it and said to us, this is a franchise. He loved the image of the guy with the cross tattooed on his face. Like it really just sold him on how he could sell the movie. And he’s been its biggest champion and was excited about it from the beginning.”

Evidently excited about the movies franchise potential, De Luca who describes the film as a blend between a vampire movie, Road Warrior and The Searchers also went on to show his appreciation of Paul Bettany’s honed acting skills, describing him as a wonderful actor who “brought real credibility to the role.”

As for the movie itself, as if we were in any doubt, De Luca reassures us that the vamps in this movie are definitely not of the brooding romantic kind, going on to say.

“They’re another species. They’re feral. They’re much more predatory and they’re more a return to like a monster movie as opposed to anything gothic or romantic.”

I must admit I’m really excited to see this movie and De Luca’s obvious enthusiasm for it has gotten me even more pumped. It’s also funny to hear that Screen Gems had the same reaction to the poster image as I did, awesome.
