H.G. Wells wrote and directed this silver screen classic.
After decades of modern war (gas and massive bombing) local warlords start to create some semblance of order. Society is in shambles and resources are distributed on the whim of a power hungry “boss”.
After fighting the pestilence called “the walking sickness”, the boss demands that airplanes be built. Enter a new entity, “Wings of the World”. This new socialist society has the common good of mankind as its mission statement. The Wings of the World representative is thrown into jail by the boss. This representative of the new society is forced to work side by side with the few remaining mechanics to create a somewhat archaic fleet of aeroplanes. Wings of the World “bombs” the boss’s city and gasses everyone to sleep.
A new day is born. After years of rebuilding a modern society, space is the new frontier. A few misfits reject this future. A fight ensues and a new breed of explorers leave earth for space.
Review:
OK - This is a 1936 post apocalyptic film based on a book by the great H.G. Wells. The special effects are campy to say the least.
However, for 1936 it is pretty cool. The model of "modern" bombers are closer to WWI than WWII. And the fight scenes are "campy".
But at the core what do you have? Extended warfare, plague, depleted resources, warlords and a new society.
Hmmmm. Sounds pretty reasonable for a post apocalyptic movie.
