The Road | 2009 | Post Apocalyptic | 2000s - Apocalyptic Movies TV and Fiction
The Road
Original title: The Road
Category 2009 , Post Apocalyptic , 2000s
Year: 2009
Country: US
Director: John Hillcoat
Cast:
Viggo Mortensen, Robert Duvall , Charlize Theron, Kodi Smit-McPhee

Plot:

After an unnamed disaster (though odds are this was an eruption of the super caldera at Yellowstone), a father and his son journey from inland to the shore of the East Coast through a landscape of utter devastation rife with cannibals.

Review: Almost entirely faithful adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's book but missing some key parts. Overall, exceptionally acted and bone-crushingly depressing. See it anyway, you'll feel so much happier about the world still existing in its present state.

0 #1 Matthew Vance 2011-04-22 16:51 Very sad movie. Kept me drawn in the entire time though. I actually connected with the characters and was hoping for their well being. Quote

0 #2 vicky 2011-05-16 23:37 an extremely depressing movie, nonetheless it is a must see as the acting is phenomenal. **Note: it might be slightly less gut wrenching than i make it out to be, but I did watch the directly after another depressing apocalyptic film (in which everyone dies)…but you STILL have to see it!!! 0 #4 Travis 2011-11-27 05:23 One of my favourite post-apocalyptic movies. Very realistic, with great acting. I was happy to find a movie of this genre without cheese or action movie leanings, though the ending was a bit 'hollywood'.

If you have a short attention span you may not like it as the pace is slow but remember; they're starved and walking through a barren a wasteland so the pace fits the story.

8.75/10

0 #5 Blackheart 2012-01-13 13:19 Well filmed and good actors but in the end it doesnt make up for being so slow and meandering in its plot, its deeply depressing and in seeing this I can say by the end I was just wanting the main characters to die so it could all just end.
5 out of 10 (and I never want to see this again)

0 #6 numness 2012-02-29 04:01 exactly what a p..a movie should feel and be. it the directing and use of lighting and sounds were great, the story was depressing but then again you are not in some fairy tale world. the realism of this film by far puts it in my top 5 post apocalyptic films of all time. worth a watch.

Acting outstanding
