Kevin Costner plays The Postman an enigmatic drifter in a post-nuclear America who helps lead the resistance against the tyrannical leader General Bethlehem and his fascistic militia who have been terrorizing and looting from the ramshackle communities in the area. Restoring the postal system that hasn’t run since before the war, he reunites the isolated communities and helps them in their battle for freedom.
Kevin Costner puts his movie making skills behind and in front of the camera in this 3 hour post-apocalyptic epic, that was in my opinion unfairly panned by the critics and overshadowed by the record breaking success of Titanic (released the same year.) Often overlooked this is a gem of a movie although admittedly it can be slightly cheesy in parts, but overall it’s 3 hours of great direction, acting and a story that’s both uplifting and inspiring.
