When the Earths inner core stops rotating the electromagnetic field that protects the planet begins to deteriorate causing extreme weather conditions all around the globe. Unaware of the cause the planet is gripped by other freak occurrences such as pigeons in Trafalgar Square suddenly veering at plate-glass windows and football sized hail stones raining down in Tokyo. However when Geophysicist Dr. Josh Keyes (Aaron Eckhart) discovers that it’s the Earths core causing the problems he heads up a team of scientists to drill down into the core and restart it using a series of nuclear explosions. The movie follows the team as they build the craft, train and eventually journey to the centre of the Earth in a bid to save to the planet before the electromagnetic field completely fails and the Earth fries.

What can I say about this movie! Well for a start you really do need to leave your scientific head at the door with this one. This is one of those sci-fi movies that’s not based on any known science in the universe but nonetheless it’s still very entertaining. Its also got some pretty awesome special effects and the script and characters are well thought out. Overall it’s quite an enjoyable movie providing you can cope with pseudo scientific mumbo-jumbo and so I’ve rated this movie on its entertainment factor alone which for me was quite high.
