A reimagining of the 1950’s sci-fi classic of the same name, this updated version takes most of its influences directly from the original novel by Jack Finney rather than it’s predecessor.
When alien spores find their way onto the planets surface, a chain of events begin that could threaten the survival of humanity. After discovering that the population of San Francisco is being slowly supplanted by emotionless duplicates, Mathew Bennell (Sutherland) and his co-worker Elizabeth (Brooke Adams,) realise that the sudden appearance of alien pod like plants may be responsible. They later come to realise that in order to prevent themselves from being replaced by alien clones they must stay awake, as the alien pods are only able to make the transformation whilst the victim is asleep. What ensues is a desperate race against time to discover an answer to the crisis whilst struggling to stay awake.
This film is a must view in my opinion. A classic suspense film that really set a high marker for subsequent films.
