Set in the year 2019 after a plague has transformed almost all of the worlds population into vampires, researcher Edward Dalton (Ethan Hawke,) faced with the extinction of the human species works tirelessly to find a way to save the dwindling populace. Meanwhile faced with an ever decreasing supply of blood, the vampires must also fight to save their future. As the situation becomes desperate the vampires begin setting up human farms and researching in the hope of creating artificial blood before their food supply (humanity) is gone forever.
