Plot:

This is a must see big budget apocalyptic disaster movie from visionary producer J.J. Abrams and director Matt Reeves, which follows a group of Manhattan residents who’s friend Rob Hawkins’ leaving party is cut short after all hell breaks loose when an earth shattering explosion occurs across the city.

The party goers and neighbouring residents pour onto the streets as they try to make sense of what’s happening. Panic quickly turns to fear and horror when the growing crowd gets their first glimpse of the terror that has descended upon New York, now running for their lives they along with the rest of the population begin to evacuate the area. The movie follows Rob and a small group of friends as they attempt to escape the city and save his ex girlfriend who's become trapped in her apartment across town.

Filmed using a hand held camera the look and feel of this movie is like no other disaster film you’d have ever seen, it’s a very unique experience not just because of the concept but the story itself, which begins almost like a drama about young Manhattan professionals before explosively transforming into a fast paced, blink and you’ll miss it movie that keeps you right on the edge of your seat.

If you enjoyed this movie I’d recommend Diary of the Dead which is filmed using the same hand held camera technique.

+1 #1 Miles 2009-10-07 08:49 I almost didn't watch this movie..In fact, I started to watch it once, but quit before it got good, because the first part of it is slow and boring (plus, read a lot of bad reviews). Well, I have to say that I'm really glad I stuck with it this time. Once you get past the slow intro, the rest is fantastic. However, I will warn any who haven't seen it, that you'll be dizzy by the time its over, due to the way it is recorded…lol

Oh, and thanks for this website! I love apocalyptic movies!

0 #2 Pat Abbatoy 2010-09-14 20:41 Well first off, I'm not sure how this movie can be classified as apocalyptic. Sci Fi, yes but apocalyptic uhh no. Regardless of that little quibble if you stay with this movie through the first 15 minutes you will find it unique and satisfying. There is nothing else out there that can even be compared to Clover field. It is surprising and terrifying. For those of us old enough to have watched and loved the old Japanese monster movies Cloverfield brings can inspire the feeling you felt as a ten year old, that sense of terror and fascination of the monstrous monolith and it's destructive potential to pound your world. I say watch it and go with it…you'll end up appreciating it. Quote

0 #3 Winston 2011-01-17 18:11 The first time I saw this movie I thought it dark visually and kinda sloppy in it's production. A few months later I watched it again and saw a lot more depth to it. Now after the third time it's one of my favorite films. Like someone said it's a modern look at 1960s japanese monster movies Quote
