Original title: Blindness
Category 2000s , 2008 , Plagues , Post Apocalyptic
Year: 2008
Country: US
Time: 120 minutes
Director: Fernando Meirelles
Cast:
Julianne Moore, Danny Glover, Maury Chaykin, Don McKellar, Gael García Bernal

Plot:

After a man is taken to hospital when he suddenly becomes blind other people that have come into contact with him also begin to loose their sight. As the situation grows out of control the authorities round up the afflicted and place them in quarantine in an attempt to curb the growing epidemic. A doctor’s wife (Julianne Moore) feigns blindness and is taken into quarantine along with her husband.  Separated away from the rest of the world life inside quarantine becomes increasingly more desperate, leaving the inmates no option but to attempt to escape. Unaware of the chaos that has engulfed the world outside they emerge into a world where the entire population has now become blind.

I'm not sure what to make of this movie, it is a very interesting concept and the portrayal of what could happen if everyone suddenly couldn't see is frighteningly realistic. However I think it focused too much on what was happening inside the quarantine and would have had a greater impact if it focused more on the outside world as it spiralled out of control. But then I guess that would have required a much bigger budget than this had. Overall it's an interesting movie definitely worth a watch.

-1 #1 Biz 2009-09-10 14:08 Blindness is nice refreshment in the niche of apocalyptic movies. Plot is intriguing, characters are well developed. We see how people can turn into the different persons in special situation Quote

0 #2 Thomas 2010-02-12 22:40 Blindness is an awful film, I found it very boring. I disagree with Biz because its storyline and concept is very hard to grab, and it will take at least 2 times of watching the film for a normal person to get used to. I recommend you do not watch it, as it lets you down with its sypnosis highly detailed, and a very persuasive piece of trailers and captions. Quote
