Sun worshipers on a Los Angeles beach watch in awe as meteors bombard the ocean several miles off the coast. As they witness the spectacular event their awe soon turns to terror as an alien army emerges from the water and systematically begins to wipe them out. As the sand across the beaches of L.A turns red with blood, sergeant Nantz (Aaron Eckhart ) leads a team of marines into what’s now become the hot zone, Santa Monica. Nantz and his team attempt to rescue civilians and destroy what seems to be the alien’s power source. However the war now raging in L.A is mirrored across the globe as other cities battle for survival against the alien invaders.

forgettable and equally copycat. In some ways I actually thought the dreadful skyline (released the same year) was better. At least that had characters which weren't as two dimensional and it featured thought out concepts . Looks great but proves once again eye candy is not enough. Quote
Unfortunately for me and my £12.99 the film was quite shit. They delivered on effects and sound design, but if you're expecting a plot and characterisatio n, you'll be sorely disappointed. I actually forgot what was going on at several points in the film, mainly because I didn't care.
If effects count for 50% of the stars in the star bar I'd give it 5… but I love effects so I give it 6. It's still shit though. Quote
