A deadly virus is released after animal activists break into a research centre and one of them is bitten by an infected animal.

 

The infection spreads quickly and soon engulfs the whole country turning its victims into enraged zombies. 28 days later Jim (Cillian Murphy) awakes from a coma to find himself in an empty hospital. He sets out into the empty streets of London to find answers and stumbles across other survivors.

 

Together they set out in the hope of finding a safe place to start again, but they fail realise that the virus victims aren't the only people they need to be weary of.
