20 Years After
Original title: 20 Years After
Category 2000s , 2008 , Nuclear , Post Apocalyptic
Year: 2008
Country: US
Time: 95 minutes
Director: Joshua Leonard
Cast:
Azura Skye, Reg E. Cathey, Nathan Baesel, Diane Salinger

Plot:

Two decades after all out nuclear war shattered civilization, the few survivors that lived through the destruction, radiation and resulting years of plagues and famine now live in fear and isolation.

The movie follows Sarah who’s played by Azura Skye (if you’re a Buffy fan you’ll remember her notable role as Cassie in one of the shows most memorable episodes.)
Sarah is pregnant and about to deliver the first baby born in over 15 years; She takes strength and inspiration from the words of a solitary voice on the radio. Broadcasting from a remote isolated location Michael (Joshua Leonard) transmits messages of hope and music into the airwaves, unaware of the impact his sentiments are having on one particular listener, Sarah, until their paths cross when they both seek shelter with other survivors in a cave. After being relentlessly pursued by devious people looking to take her baby, Sarah and Michael are drawn closer and together attempt to escape by travelling into the unknown.

I haven't personally viewed this movie, I just know it exists, so please take the rating with a grain of salt. My thoughts are, that the movie is basically a plot rip-off of the very good film, Children of Men

+2 #1 Shaun 2009-07-04 19:12 I actually enjoyed this movie even though its low budget is more than apparent, right from the opening scenes. However if you can see past the obvious financial constraints, the story has some interesting ideas, and although the ending is a little weak it did tie things up nicely.
That being said, ultimately I think what saves this film from being just another forgettable, low budget independent PA movie, is the stand out performances of Reg E Cathey and Azura Skye who were flawless, as was Joshua Leonard for that matter. And to be honest I think for the average viewer it will be their performances alone that will make this movie watchable.
