Is DiCaprio’s Akira Live Action Remake Dead in the Water?
It would seem that the rumoured problems were true as the production of the 2 part live action movie that was being produced by Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way and Warner Bros studios has halted.
It was rumoured some months ago that the director Ruairi Robinson had walked away from the film leaving the project in limbo. Now however not only has that been confirmed, it also seems that the entire project has been abandoned, and it’s uncertain whether it will ever get off the ground again.
Akira is the 1980s classic post-apocalyptic Manga movie that is by far the most widely known and acclaimed animated movie of the genre. Many fans of the original didn’t take too kindly to the news of the all American remake, and it seems the project had an uphill struggle ever since news of it broke.
Whether you’re in favour of the remake or not it would seem the future of this project for the moment at least is uncertain.
