What was the first thing that really made you think about survivalism?

For me it was the times, I saw the end of the cold war and as always we had the threat of nuclear annihilation but I suppose the absolute first thing that made me think of it was a film……….George Remaros original dawn of the dead, the 1970's version with them all in the mall.
Now a little after that I saw a old British film called Threads about a nuclear bomb hitting a British city, that terrified me and I suppose still does to this day.
So those are are what made me look into survivalism what made you?

lol in that we are in total agreement, mans biggest enemy is himself!
But in that I feel that meeting aliens from another world peaceful or otherwise would be the making of humanity, because simply it would make us get together and face a different threat rather than each other.
That is if they exist……..(doubtful)
