But it’s not good news for those that were hoping to see this gut-wrenching post-apocalyptic thriller at the cinema; it’s just been given a DVD and Blu-ray release date of April 17. Still no cover images or further details at the minute, but seems you won’t have to wait too long to see it on the small screen. You can find some pretty neat clips from The Divide here

If like me you’re a lover of post-apocalyptic B-movies, you should be interested to hear about some new developments in the making of Battle of The Damned, it’s just got its leading man, in the form of Swedish heavy weight Dolph Lungdren. The movie which will see humans, robots AND zombies pitted against each other will go into production in June and judging by the excitement of the filmmakers, who have described the project as an “Escape From New York meets 28 Days Later” it may keep us going until it’s bigger budget cousin Zombies Vs. Robots is released in 2013. One of the films producers Ehud Bleiberg recently had this to say about the project. “It’s going to be so intense and thrilling and it’s never been seen before! Humans versus zombies versus robots. Having Dolph on board just takes it to a whole new level. He brings so much to the table and he’s looking forward to digging into this role.” Hmm If you ask me the robots and zombies don’t stand a chance against Dolph!

The Hunger Games has been on my radar for quite some time now although I still haven’t gotten around to reading the book, which I’ve been told is excellent, you can check out the reviews if you need any proof of that. However you only need to read the synopsis to see that the movie adaptation has huge potential and judging by the current trailer and its predecessors that potential may have been realised. Summary: Set in a post-apocalyptic future where the authoritarian state “Capitol” chooses a boy and a girl from one of the twelve districts to fight to the death on live television, a young woman volunteers to take her younger sister’s place for the latest match. The movie stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth and is set for release March 23, 2012. The Hunger Games trailer: Join the forum discussion on this post

If I wasn’t already looking forward to watching this tomorrow, I certainly would be now, compared to the earlier trailers which left me interested but unsure, this one has definitely got me pumped ahead of tomorrow’s visit to the cinema. I’m always a bit wary when studios release last minute trailers ahead of a movie’s release, but judging from the early buzz after the advanced screenings in the UK this week, it seems that Chronicle has not only met but exceeded many viewers expectations. And after watching this new trailer I can’t help but feel its predecessors were a very clever marketing ploy; purposefully low key, but I think it’s paid off. Take a look see what you think.
Finally we get a long awaited trailer on the coming French apocalyptic sci-fi horror Dead Shadows The basic plot line is as follows: Dead Shadows tells the terrifying story about a young man, Chris, whose parents were brutally killed 11 years ago, on the same day that the Haley comet could be seen from earth. A new comet is going to appear tonight and everyone were he lives is getting ready for a party to celebrate the event. As the night falls, Chris starts to discover that people are acting strangely – and it seems to be somehow connected to the comet. People are becoming disoriented and violent and it doesn’t take long before they start mutating into something from beyond this world. Now its a fight for survival, Chris has to try to escape from his building with the help from other tenants – but the big question is will they make it out alive? The film seems to tip its hat to many of the apocalyptic films that have gone before it, from the 80′s cult film “Night of the comet” to the more recent “The Signal”, but with that being said it also seems to hold its own unique plot lines. I can only hope that Dead Shadows holds to the production values and feel of other recent French block buster horror films like “La Horde”. The only down side to all of this is that the film producers have not yet set a firm release date. Still this apocalyptic cowboy is interested and wants to see more and suggests you take a look at the trailer too.

There are of course many fan made incarnations littering the web, but we now have the first official teaser poster for Resident Evil: Retribution. And I must say I’m suitably impressed with its post-apocalyptic lushness. I’m not quite sure what city that is laid in ruins? But I could see myself walking down its streets with a bug-out bag and shot gun slung over my shoulder. As an extra treat they’ve also released a banner both of which you can find below. For those not up to speed. You can find more info and the official teaser trailer for the movie (which is more of a theatrical ad for Sony products than a trailer) here: Resident Evil: Retribution Trailer Click on the thumbnails to view the full image.
Hold on to your lunch because Z-108 (Zombie 108) is here! Yes its Taiwan’s first mainstream shot at a zombie film. But in great tradition with most Asian films they have to go that little bit further than the norm and with that Z-108 is undoubtedly one of the most depraved zombie films you can find on the planet at the moment, just brimming with sex and gore! The film depicted is an especially brutal zombie outbreak in the city of Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, a nuclear disaster in Japan accidentally alters the genes of an influenza virus. A group of young people who have been infected haven’t paid any attention to their illness, until one of them surprisingly bites a girl’s throat. After this the powers that be take notice and the government orders a quarantine. Meanwhile, the army and the police join to form a team to enter the quarantined zone. In no time, the whole city is awash with zombies. People from all walks of life, including gangsters, policemen and civilians must work together to escape, but in fact they have hidden plans to compete with and even kill each other. So far Z-108 has no firm release date here in the USA or in Europe, but it is planned for this year! So watch out for this newcomer to the Zombie film market it aims to shock! With that in mind I will not post the Official trailer release here as it is somewhat adult but its out there now, so if you have the interest and the stomach just go and look it up! err ok, if you insist!
REC the Spanish zombie sensation is back with a new film 30th March this year. The new chapter will see the film in a more traditional cinematographic style. However the film’s roots have not been forgotten and viewers will still be immersed in the action watching certain events unfold through the eye of the video camera. The action takes place miles away from the original location and partly in broad daylight giving the film an entirely fresh yet disturbing reality. The infection has left the building. In a clever twist that draws together the plots of the first two movies this third part of the saga also works as a decoder to uncover information hidden in the first two films and leaves the door open for the final installment the future REC 4 Apocalypse which is already being pushed forward into production! The situation in Rec 3 is as follows: Koldo and Clara are about to celebrate one of the most important days of their lives, their wedding. Everything appears to be running smoothly and the bride and groom and their families are enjoying a wonderful day; that is until some of the guests start showing signs of a strange illness. Before they know what’s happening, the bride and groom find themselves in the middle of a hellish ordeal, as an uncontrollable torrent of violence is unleashed on the wedding. From what has been released and seen before this is going to be a real action zombie fest. Here is the Trailer with English subtitles.

Director: Chris Gorak Cast: Emile Hirsch, Olivia Thirlby, Max Minghella, Rachael Taylor, Joel Kinnaman, Veronika Ozerova Summary: Sean and Ben (Emile Hirsch and Max Minghella) are two hotshot software designers that arrive in Moscow to finalise a business deal only to find that their dodgy middle man has ripped them off. Reeling from the days events the duo decide to unwind in a highfliers nightclub, where they hook up with Natalie and Anne (Olivia Thirlby and Rachael Taylor) two tourists on their way to Napal. But before they get chance to drink away the worries of their sour business deal there’s a power cut and strange lights begin descending from the heavens. Panic ensues when they realise that the awesome looking light show is in fact an alien force that disintegrates humans on contact. After spending a few days holed up in the nightclubs basement, they emerge to find the city deserted and an invisible alien force pursuing them. Review: I had huge expectations for this movie, seen as it’s directed by Chris Gorak, even though this is only his second feature in a directorial role, his debut Right At Your Door was a great first effort and left me thinking he was definitely one to watch. So I was quite enthusiastic about the movie when I first heard about the project. And the excitement was amplified when I heard that Emile Hirsch had taken on the lead role and Timur Bekmambetov (Night Watch) had come on board as producer. However my anticipation for the movie’s release was dampened by the early release of the teaser trailer, as it was then that I had my first niggling doubts about the movies potential. As much as I want to give this movie a positive review I have to say those early doubts were proved right. However the movie did have huge potential and some interesting ideas, the biggest of which was setting the film in Moscow, which makes for a fantastic backdrop for a sci-fi movie and is a refreshing change from the usual. Also having invisible aliens was a nice touch and an unusual approach to dealing with budget constraints, although this does ultimately leave the viewer feeling short changed. The opening to the movie wasn’t great but kept my interest, however the initial scenes of the alien invasion was handled quite well and had me reminiscing about the crowds fleeing and being zapped into clouds of dust in War of the Worlds. However from that point on things quickly deteriorated and as our heroes emerged from their hideout my interest in the film began to wane. As from that point on although the momentum of the movie increased, the originality, dialogue and actions of the characters (and aliens) quickly nose-dived. Also the film became very repetitive and I started to have horrifying flash backs of Battle L.A as it was once again less like watching a movie and more like watching someone play a FPS game and we all...
